Away We Grow! Week 1

Let's Get Planting!!!
Love, love, love all this wonderful spring weather. It is just perfect for our study about plants. So far we have created plant posters/diagrams showing the parts of a flower. The kids really loved creating their posters. They were so proud of how well they did and how they turned out. Of course I had to really brag on all the wonderful flowers. I feel like spring has found its way into my classroom. Here are our posters. Aren't they just beautiful...

I then had my class complete these little charts about plants...Plants - Have, Need, and Give

This comparison chart on how plants are alike and different really showed how much the kids have learned about plants...

Take a look at our classroom bean garden. Wow, this was a favorite activity of the kids. They were just beaming at their own little flower pot with their bean seeds. They are so excited that they are gardeners. Need I say, putting their hands in all that dirt was super exciting...and the watering bottle came in a close second. There is something about kids and spraying water...Gotta love first graders!

Check back next week to see how they've grown.
Who lives in a Saquaro Cactus? I love their drawings...

We have been reading many wonderful books about plants along with all the wonderful activities...here are some of my favorites:

Love this book!

Saint Patrick's Day fun!

If I found a Pot of Gold...

I love St. Patrick's Day. We have had so much fun this past week. We began with a little writing activity...If I found a Pot of Gold. First, we covered our pots we found at the end of the rainbow, with black mosiac squares to create a 3D effect. Then we glittered our gold coins to add that touch of sparkle. Finally, the students came up with 2 ways they would spend or use their gold. My firsties came up with so many cute ideas on how they would spend their gold. Check them out!

Prism Rainbows...The kids thought this was so cool. I have this great water prism that makes just beautiful rainbows on our wall. My class couldn't stop talking about how "they" made a rainbow. Isn't this what makes first grade the best?

In math, we are working on graphing and data, so we used skittles (taste the rainbow...) and sorted, tallied and graphed how many we had of each color in our bag.

The tally charts and graphs turned out so nice.

We also created Lephrecaun calendars. The students created an ABC pattern using candy apple green, dark green and gold. They look so good!

...A little ABC order using all things having to do with March. My class is getting so good at this skill. So proud!
